Sleep when you´re dead... Week 2 / Paris Day 1

Tuesday, June 10, 2014

That´s basically been the motto for this past weekend, and I have a feeling that it won´t change for the rest of my time in Europe. But when there´s so much to see/do, why do that anyways?? So apologies in advance cause this post is gonna be a long one...

This past week and weekend was pretty jam packed. On Wednesday I had a cooking class where a group of us made traditional Spainish/Catalan food which included; pan con tomate, gazpacho, tortilla de patata, paella, and crema catalana. Everything was so good, I probably ate my weight in food. And better yet, we were given the recipes so I can try and make the food again!! I helped make the gazpacho and crema catalana which means they obviously tasted the best...(jk no the paella rocked)

No one should trust me with this...
Finished product!
Then Thursday, for work, I took a trip with my co-workers to a little town called Igualada. The town used to be a major producer of textiles and fine leather, so twice a year, it invites up and coming designers and more established stores and brands to set up pop-up stores in all of the abandoned textile factories. We went to talk to the new designers, but other people were there to take advantage of the super great prices on all of the clothes. If I wasn´t working, I totally would have to.

Wouldn´t call this a pop-up store...

From there, I literally went straight to the airport to jet off to Paris! The last time I was there I was 16, so I was super excited to see it again. When we landed, my friend Emily and I went to the hostel, dropped off our bags, and of course made a bee-line for the Eiffel Tower. We got some crepes and sat down and got to enjoy the monument as it did its hourly sparkle, light up thing.

The next day we met up with our other friends, Sidney and Chelsea (basically one big party/reunion this weekend) and proceeded to walk basically clear across Paris. We started at the Arc de Triomphe and ended up a little past Notre Dame. We took a few necessary breaks though, one at La Duree, which is arguably my favorite my fav place in Paris because of my fierce love of macaroons.

We also had a picnic at the Tulliere Gardens, and were joined by about half of Paris´ population. The Parisians know how to take a lunch break. And our last stop was at Berthillion, which is known as the best ice cream in Paris. Cafes all around the city sell the ice cream, but I think it´s worth the walk to go to the actual store, since the ice cream is definitely more fresh (can ice cream be fresh?) and the shop itself is really cute.
Lunching like Parisians

OMG I got it!!

How can a place be this pretty??
We took a little break, and then from there went to go do a bike tour around the city. I somehow managed to not fall off or hit anyone, so I would definitely consider that a success.Taking pictures while biking is tres hard so I don´t have too many. But I would recommend the bike tour at night because its cooler out and you also get to go on a boat tour after! They also provide wine on the boat, which is always a great bonus. Not sure that riding a bike after is a great idea, but hey, when in Paris right?

So to avoid making this overwhelming, I´ll just post about my other two days in Paris another time! This weekend should prove to be fun. Thursday the World Cup officially starts, and I´m pumped to be in Europe for it since they are so into football. On Friday, Spain AND Mexico have matches, so I expect things to get intense around here. Anyone seen the Nike or Beats ads for the World Cup? I think my fav is the Beats ad, the song in it is pretty great.

Hope everyone has a great week, and may the World Cup odds be ever in your team´s favor...(yeah I´m lame okay?)
